FOURTH GENERATION: Official details of the new Suzuki Vitara will be revealed at the Paris motor show in early October.

Suzuki has revealed its next-generation Vitara four-wheel drive ahead of its official reveal at the Paris motor show in October.

The Japanese brand has issued a statement confirming its premiere and one single image, but has yet to reveal full technical details of the vehicle.

It has confirmed the fourth-generation of its venerable compact SUV will take inspiration from the iV-4 concept car it displayed at last year's Frankfurt motor show and will feature its latest all-wheel drive transmission as well as body and trim personalisation options.

It is expected that the Vitara, which is scheduled to arrive in Australian showrooms in 2015, will have both petrol and diesel engine options, using the 86kW/156Nm 1.6-litre four cylinder from the S-Cross and a new 88kW/320Nm 1.6-litre turbo diesel.

Suzuki also states the Vitara will have "excellent fuel economy" and introduce "advanced technologies", indicating that a hybrid drivetrain may be on the cards.

The Vitara will slot between the company's base-model Jimny and the S-Cross high-riding hatchback in terms of its size.

Official details will be revealed at the Paris motor show in early October.
